Indian traders float tenders to import 330,000 tonnes corn

The Dollar Business Bureau   India's two state-run trading companies have issued tenders to import 330,000 tonnes of maize with an aim to stimulate supplies of the grain and bring down rocketing domestic prices.   PEC Limited has initiated a tender to import 200,000 tonnes of maize in December this year and January next. The company announced the last date for submitting bids as July 29.   The State Trading Corp of India (STC) has sought to import 130,000 tonnes of maize for shipments in August. India, WTO working together for permanent solution on food security

Source: PTI India is working with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) members to ensure an early permanent solution on the food security issue, parliament was informed on Wednesday by Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Ending months-long deadlock, the WTO in November last year acceded to India's demand to remove constraints on the food stockpiling issue. The WTO's General Council, the highest decision making body of the organisation, had accepted India's demand for extending the peace clause till a permanent solution is found for its food stockpiling issue.
