Exports of passenger vehicle drop 1.51%; two-wheelers up 20% in FY18

The Dollar Business Bureau With focus of the industry shifting towards domestic market and lasting impact of GST refunds on exporters, the passenger vehicle exports from India dropped by 1.51% in 2017-18, witnessing a dip for the first time in the past seven years. In 2017-18 fiscal, 7.47 lakh units of passenger vehicles were exported as against 7.58 lakh units in the previous fiscal, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). “This is the first decline in exports of passenger vehicles since 2010-11 when it declined 0.41%,” said Sugato Sen, Deputy Director General, SIAM. India to see sales of 30.81 mn electric vehicles by 2040: Amitabh Kant

The Dollar Business Bureau  NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant said on Thursday that the strong push by the Government towards e-mobility is targeted towards making India an export hub for electric vehicles. “The vehicle penetration in the country is the lowest among the developing countries. At present, India has 20 cars per 1,000 people whereas the US has 800 cars,” Kant said while addressing the 57th Annual Convention of SIAM in New Delhi. “Other countries will have the problem to make the switch to electric but India has the advantage to become the leader because of its low penetration levels. Royal Enfield to bid nearly $2bn for Ducati India

The Dollar Business Bureau The Royal Enfield’s maker in India, Eicher Motors is bidding $1.8 billion-$2 billion for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, according to a Reuters India news on Thursday. This led to the shares of Eicher Motors spiraling to a record high. Eicher Motors is the only Asian company in the auction, finalising the terms with advisers before the bidding deadline at the end of September, the media agency reported. Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover to hire 5000 people in Britain

The Dollar Business Bureau  Britain’s largest car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will employ 5,000 people in order to boost the company’s skills in electric and autonomous technology, a welcome corporate endorsement as UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May begins Brexit negotiations after the election. JLR said that it would be hiring 1,000 electronic and software engineers and an additional staff of 4,000 in the manufacturing division. Most of the employees will be based in the UK. Tata Motors robot 'BRABO' to be exported to Europe

The Dollar Business Bureau  Indian auto major Tata Motors Ltd said on Sunday that its wholly owned subsidiary TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd has got 'CE' certification for the first Made-in-India robot - 'BRABO'  to be sold commercially in the European market. “The TAL BRABO now complies with essential requirements relevant to European health, safety and environmental legislation, permitting its export to customers in Europe,” the auto major said in a statement. The robot can be utilised for different applications such as picking and placing materials, machine and press tending, assembling parts, sealing applications, jobs related to camera and vision, among others. This advanced robot can also complement human labour force by conducting dangerous, dull and monotonous tasks. JLR witnesses best ever sales in January, up by 4%

The Dollar Business Bureau Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors, on Monday reported its best-ever retail sales in the month of January at 47,693 units, an increase of 4% compared to the corresponding month of 2016. Tata Motors global sales up by 4% in December

The Dollar Business Bureau Indian auto major, Tata Motors Ltd informed on Tuesday that its global sales have increased by 4% at 95,081 units in the month of December, which include that of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).  In the same month in 2015, a Tata Group company had sold 91,762 units, Tata Motors said in a statement. The cumulative sales for the fiscal stood at 8,22,807 units, an increase of 9%, over the previous fiscal of 2015-16.In the passenger vehicles segment, the company’s global sales stood at 64,202 units in December compared to 59,287 units during the corresponding period in 2015, an increase of 8%. During the entire fiscal, the company sold 5,38,126 passenger vehicles, a rise of 6%, as compared to previous financial year.
