JNPT records 5.11% growth in container traffic in Q1

The Dollar Business Bureau Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s biggest container port, recorded a rise of 5.11% in container traffic by handling 1.20 million TEUs, during the first three months of the current fiscal over the same period last year. “India’s largest container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), registered a 5.11% growth in container traffic in the first quarter of the current financial year by handling 1.20 million TEUs as compared to 1.14 million TEUs in the corresponding quarter of the last financial year,” Ministry of Shipping said in a statement.  TEU or twenty-foot equivalent unit are used for measuring the cargo carrying capacity of a ship. Cargo volume at 12 major ports up by 6.3% in April 2017

The Dollar Business Bureau April 2017 saw an increase in cargo movement at India's 12 major ports, which handled a total capacity of 55.75 million tonnes (mt) during the month. An increase of 6.27% was recorded, in comparison with the cargo volume reported in April 2016, which stood at 52.46 mt. The increase in cargo traffic was attributed to the rising demand demonstrated for raw materials like iron ore and coking coal. During the month, Iron ore volumes spiked by 40% to 5.37 mt while coking coal traffic grew by 15% to 4.61 mt.  The Dollar Business Bureau APM Terminals Mumbai one of three terminals currently operating at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), is India’s largest container port, accounting for 45% of JNP’s throughput, and approximately 20% of India’s total container traffic. Recently, the Terminals established a new record for Indian ports by handling a total of 2.01 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) during the Fiscal Year of 2014-15, from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015. China Shipping container reaches Mumbai Port for the first time

APM Terminals Mumbai close to completing its container weighing project

 The Dollar Business Bureau As part of its ongoing efforts to provide a safe working environment to all stakeholders, APM Terminals Mumbai is now in the final stages of completing its container weighing project that will help in identifying weights in mis-declared containers.
