The Dollar Business Bureau Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said on Tuesday that the hike in customs duty on silk and manmade fibre, announced in the Budget, will discourage cheap imports of textile products from China and benefit the local manufacturers. “Increase in customs duty on silk and manmade fibre will discourage cheap Chinese textile products from flooding the market and benefit domestic manufacturers in the power loom sector,” Irani said while addressing media in New Delhi on Budget allocation for the Ministry. Indias textile market to reach $250 bn in 2 years: ASSOCHAM study

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s textiles market is likely to reach $250 billion in the coming two years from the present level of $150 billion, according to a study.  “The market size of India’s textile market is expected to touch $250 billion in the next two years from the current level of $150 billion,” said a joint study conducted by ASSOCHAM-Resurgent on ‘Women in Textiles & Handicrafts Industry'. “The textile sector in India makes up for about 10% of the manufacturing production, 5% of the country’s GDP and 13% of its exports earnings,” the study said. Govt. to modify stall allotment policy at Dilli Haat in two weeks: Smriti Zubin Irani

The Dollar Business Bureau  The government is working towards the welfare of the artisans belonging to handicraft clusters and will modify the stall allotment policy at Dilli Haat next week, said Union Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani while inaugurating the fortnight-long Exhibition cum sale of Handicrafts developed by Artisans of Clusters, “Cluster Creation 2016”.
