Govt aims to cut coal imports to zero for power PSUs

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government said on Sunday that it is targeting to bring down the imports of thermal coal to ‘zero’ of power public sector units (PSUs) such as NTPC Ltd in this fiscal, a step that will help in cutting down the import bill of the country by about Rs.17,000 crore. “This year we want that coal import by these plants (of public sector companies) should be brought down to zero and slowly we would convince the private sector that there is no need for you to import coal,” Susheel Kumar, Secretary - Coal told the PTI. Alstom Bharat Forge signs contract with NTPC

The Dollar Business Bureau Alstom Bharat Forge, the joint-venture company between GE and Bharat Forge Ltd has signed a contract worth $219 million with NTPC. The company will supply two units of 800 MW steam turbine generator islands to the Telangana Super Power Thermal Power Project Phase-1 (TSPTPPP-1) near Ramagundam . A company statement from Alstom said that they will supply two units of 800 MW of ultra-super critical steam turbine generator islands on EPC basis. This will be done along with the related civil work for the TSPTPPP-1 in the Karimnagar district of Telangana. Coal India devises plans to achieve 1 billion tonnes target by 2020

The Dollar Business Bureau With India’s coal demand projection for 2019-20 standing at around 1,200 million tonne (MT), the Coal India Limited (CIL) is aiming at 1 billion tonne (BT) production mark for the similar period. CIL, a major public sector unit, has unveiled its roadmap of strategies to attain the said coal production target. Centre plans to improve thermal power generation
