Indias monthly truck bus radial tyre imports record a new high averaging 1.2 lakh

The Dollar Business Bureau Due to an increase in dumping from China, India’s monthly imports of truck and bus radial tyres (TBR) recorded new highs averaging 1.2 lakh units in 2016-17. This has prompted the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) to reiterate its demands to DGAD seeking an early imposition of anti-dumping duty on the imports of TBR from China. Seeking an early redressal to help the domestic industry ATMA revealed the alarming figures that have been spiralling in the last few years. PTI Indian tyre manufacturers are actively seeking the supply of natural rubber from South-East Asian producers due to a slowdown in domestic production and increase in demand, industry officials said on Monday.India’s rubber industry is also expected to do hedging and risk management on Singapore Commodity Exchange (SICOM), prices set by which are used as a benchmark for rubber export from South East Asia.“More Indian tyre manufacturers and rubber consumers have been reaching out to South-East Asian rubber producers to secure supply,” said Tan Tee Yong, Director for Rubber Commodities at Singapore Exchange (SGX), the parent group of SICOM.He noted that Indian rubber-linked companies have set up offices in the midst of Singapore's global rubber trading hub, led by major producers.“The supply gap ...

'Government must regulate import of natural rubber to protect domestic industry

The Dollar Business Bureau The government should regulate the import of natural rubber during peak season through designated ports and must ensure quality check to protect the domestic industry, a parliamentary panel has said. “Imports should be need based and the quantum of imports may be determined on the basis of the gap between the domestic production and consumption,” said the parliamentary standing committee in its report presented in the parliament on Thursday. Expressing concern over steep fall in the price of natural rubber, the panel asked for an immediate intervention from the government. “Unless the necessary measures are taken, there is a possibility of growers shifting to other crops,” it said.
