Forex earnings increase due to rise in tourist arrivals

Sai Nikesh | The Dollar Business The Indian Ministry of Tourism’s latest official release says that the Indian Tourism sector has witnessed a growth rate in January, 2015. According to the Ministry’s monthly estimates released on Tuesday, the Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) in terms of rupees, have increased to 4% over the corresponding year. According to statistics, FTAs, by accounting to a total of 7.90 lakh during January, 2015, over 7.59 lakh in the corresponding year, has achieved 4% growth rate. Sai Nikesh | The Dollar Business The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), in its latest report announced that the international tourism, with a growth of about 3% to 4%, will contribute to the global economic recovery in 2015. According to a region-wise positive outlook for 2015 (confirmed by UNWTO Confidence Index), the growth is expected to be stronger in Asia & Pacific and the Americas, both above 4% to 5%, followed by Europe (above 3% to 4%), Africa (above 3% to 5%) and the Middle East (above 2% to 5%). Indias Foreign Exchange Earnings from tourism up 20% in April Sep 2014

The Dollar Business Bureau | @TheDollarBiz Foreign Tourist Arrivals to India are up about 11.7% (y-o-y) in April - September 2014   India’s Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) from tourism in the first half of FY2014-15 stands at Rs.54,170 crore (about $9 billion), which is up almost 20% compared to Rs.45,275 crore (about $7.66 billion) earned in the corresponding period last year. According to India’s Ministry of Tourism, the total number of tourist arrivals  (Foreign Tourist Arrivals or FTAs) during April-September 2014 has increased to 30.53 lakh, up about 11.7% from 27.33 lakh recorded during the same period last year.
