India, Myanmar discussing procurement of pulses

The Dollar Business Bureau The Indian government is discussing long-term plans to procure pulses from Myanmar due to its shortage in the country and increased domestic prices. Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the governments of both the countries are in talks for the import of pulses from Myanmar. India needs to import pulses from several other countries because of its high domestic consumption. Depending on the estimated requirement of pulses this year, the government has begun discussions with the Myanmar government. India can import pulses through government agencies to have sufficient stock of pulses, the minister said during her visit to Myanmar. Maha Govt plans to bring 70% farmers under PMFBY

The Dollar Business Bureau   Due to drought for three successive years in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra and the poor monsoon in the previous years, the state government is trying to get more and more farmers under the insurance scheme for crops, in order to provide compensation for their failed crops. Currently, there are just 30 percent farmers, who are under the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), an insurance scheme launched by the central government for farmers. The Maharashtra government wants to increase this target to 70 percent, according to official sources. Union Agriculture Minister reviews efforts made to face deficient monsoon

Source: PIB, Government of India Radha Mohan Singh, Union Agriculture Minister on Friday, took a review meeting of the efforts being made since April to face the deficient monsoon.
