India to become 2nd largest 4G phone market after China next year

The Dollar Business Bureau  With explosive growth recorded in data usage, led by lucrative offers from telecom operators such as Reliance Jio and Airtel, India is expected to become the second biggest 4G handset market by 2018, said a report by market research firm Counterpoint on Thursday.  With a projected installed user base of around 340 million 4G handsets, India will take over the US as the second biggest market. Xiaomi plans to ramp up production at Chennai plant

The Dollar Business Bureau Having received an encouraging response for its phones, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi said on Tuesday that it is planning to ramp up its production and to add extra assembly lines in its facility.  Presently, Xiaomi India has a contract manufacturing unit with Foxconn, situated near Chennai at Sri City SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Tada and sells several models made at this manufacturing facility.  "The plan is to increase number of (assembly) lines in our existing facility in Sri City (SEZ). Xiaomi expands in India with $25 mn investment

The Dollar Business Bureau China’s leading smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi on Tuesday announced it has taken a step forward in the Indian market with a $25-million (about Rs.165.4 crore) investment funding in the entertainment business, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment. The company, however, hasn’t disclosed the percentage of stake and the timeline of this integration. “Xiaomi leading a $25 million round into Indian VoD & entertainment company Hungama, with Intel Capital and Bessemer, our first deal in India!” Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s Global Vice President, said in a tweet. Asus to make smartphones in India; partners Foxconn

Source : PTI Asus on Thursday said it has partnered with Foxconn to begin local manufacturing of smartphones in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, a move that will help the Taiwanese tech major bolster its presence in the burgeoning Indian handset market. The company, which will kickstart manufacturing operations with Zenfone 2 Laser followed by ZenFone Go, aims to manufacture 1.5 lakh smartphones a month by the end of the current financial year. 4G device sales grow in India by 108% during Q12015

 The Dollar Business Bureau Increasing use of smartphones and high-speed wireless internet has propelled the sales of 4G devices in Indian markets. According to a market research, sales of 4G-enabled devices that support high-speed data transfer have increased by whopping 108% between January and March this year. Analysts attribute the upward sales to the rising demand of data card and smartphones across the country. The two segments have witnessed an increase of 287% and 111% respectively during this period, said the quarterly report released by CyberMedia Research (CMR). While the total 4G device shipments in the country reached 2.2 million units during January-March 2015, smartphones dominated the market contributing 97% of the devices sold.
