Telangana IT/ITeS exports up 13.26% at Rs.75000 cr

Telangana IT exports growth is better than the overall India’s IT exports growth rate.

Information technology (IT) and Information technology enabled services (ITES) exports from Telangana have recorded a healthy growth of 13.26% at Rs.75,070 crore in FY 2016 when compared to Rs.66,276 crore in FY 2015. This is better than the overall India’s IT/ITeS exports growth rate at 12.33% in FY 2016.

Telangana is moving decisively towards achieving the set target of doubling the IT/ITeS exports by 2019, the state IT Secretary, Jayesh Ranjan told the Dollar Business Bureau. "Telangana has created employment opportunities to 35,611 people in the IT sector in the previous fiscal with the total number of IT professionals in the state increasing to 4,07,385 in FY 2016 against 3,71,774 in FY 2015," he said.  After launching the ICT (information and communications technology) Policy, the Telangana government is preparing to launch new polices related to the IT sector. Cyber Security Policy, Data Analytics Policy, Data Centres Policy and Open Data Policy are going to be introduced in the state in the next three months,” he informed. 

He further said, “The government has created a healthy environment for investments in the state. With the recently introduced ICT Policy, we have laid foundation for the state to become a leader in various areas of emerging technologies. We have also helped many government departments to develop ICT applications for enhancing their work procedures.”

Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao has recently released the IT Department’s annual report for 2015-16. While releasing the report, he appreciated the department’s efforts in promoting IT sector not only in Hyderabad but also in tier II cities such as Warangal.

The government is now focusing on Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. This is another important area having huge potential to create both employment and revenues to the state. With a new Electronics Policy, Telangana is likely to attract more than $3 billion investments in the state, the minister revealed.

Suman Reddy, MD of an IT company Pegasystems India said that Telangana is growing tremendously. The state is going to emerge as India’s leading IT destination. Startups in the state are gaining from the effective government policies. Start-up incubator T-Hub and Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) are providing good opportunities for the young generation of the state.
