US President-elect Donald Trump has met Sandeep Mathrani, a top Indian-American real estate industry veteran from Chicago amid reports of him joining the new administration. After choosing Indian born Nick Haley to represent as the US Ambassador at the UN, Sandeep could be the 2nd Indian in Trump’s administration.

Mathrani, 54, the Chief Executive Officer of General Growth Properties - the second-largest mall portfolio owner in the US, met the President-elect at the Trump Towers in New York yesterday.

The presidential transition team, except for announcing the scheduled meeting, did not issue a readout of the meeting Trump had with Mathrani, real estate executive from Chicago, the hometown of outgoing President Barack Obama.

Local media reports speculated that Mathrani could join Trump administration.

According to Chicago Business, Mathrani earned $39.2 million last year, more than any other CEO of a US real estate investment trust.

Mathrani joined General Growth in 2011, right after the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Before joining General Growth, which has a market capitalisation of nearly $23 billion, Mathrani was president of retail real estate at New York-based Vornado Realty Trust.

Mathrani is a real estate industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience and holds a Master of Engineering, Master of Management Science and Bachelor of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
